This week has been so good! I just loved it. Monday we were really
busy trying to get everyone in so that sister goodman was able to say
bye to eveyone. Tuesday was a day. We got up at 5:00 in the morning so
that we could leave by 6:20 to go to Louisville to do the transfers.
WE got there safely after I for some reason got a little car sick. I
didn't 'ralph' though so that was good. :) Transfers went well. i
played the piano, which I miss terribly. I also said one last goodbye
to Sister Moyes. Right now, she is in Utah enjoying the real world. :)
I got to meet my new companion. And i got to see the Footes again and
I got to say goodbye to Sister Goodman. I was not too happy about that
but it had to happen. Right now sister goodman is in Charlestown
Indiana. I believe she is enjoying it. :) I was not happy to see her
go but I am glad to have a little more quiet time now. :) My new
companion is Sister Makami. It is sounded out like ME-CAW-ME. For some
strange reason, I cannot say her name. I always mess it up if I am not
paying attention. Sometimes I can't even think of it. I put a sign on
my bullitin board that says ME-CAW-Me so that maybe I will be able to
remember it. I am sensing a pattern in my companions names. Graham,
Moyes, Goodman, Mikami. GMGM. haha. :) Sister Mikami is just a great
missionary. She came out so prepared. I love her so much. She seems
like she has been out for a year and a half she is so good. Our
lessons that we teach are equal now. I am no longer the only one
teaching the doctrine. I didn't mind to but it is great to have
someone teach it with me. :) She is half Japanese which I thought was
cool. About two weeks ago I thought it would be cool to have a person
from a different orient and I got half a one. :) She is from Ogden
Utah and she has two sisters and one brother. Just like me. She is in
jadens position though. We get along really well and this week was
just the bomb.
I don't know what happened to Beattyville, but we got to teach 38
lessons this week. Most of them were short 3 min lessons while we were
tracting. And guess how many new investigators we got? 11 new ones.
That is so surprising. That is more than I got in the last two
transfers. Crazy! THe lord is blessing us though. Most of the
investigators that we just got are not too promising but they are
worth it. We taught the Perry family and that was another awkward
lesson. We asked them to turn the Tv off so that the spirit could be
there and they looked at us like we were taking away their life. THey
did turn it down...some. :)
one of the investigators I really liked. His name is Allen Hogan.
We were at first scard to talk to him because his back was toward us.
But he talked to him and we shared about the BOM and then I bore my
testimony. He said that would be great if we taught him but his family
was busy because his dad is going to pass away soon. He set up his own
appointment date though later one for Saturday. I am very excited to
meet with him. He seems promising and he has a family which is great.
We had an interesting conversation with Lola Mayabb another
investigator. We talked about the restoration a bit and then she got
to talking and was talking about adam and eve. She got into some
pretty blasphemous stuff about the Tree of knowlege of good and evil
being Satan. and how cain and abel were twins but cain's father was
satan and abels father was Adam. It was pretty crazy stuff and I
didn't really know how to respond with that. We just ended up bearing
our testimony of how it was really like. It was crazy.
I know I should not tell mom this. :) Sorry but I am okay. I just
think this experience is cool. The Lord Protected us yet again. I have
two stories about that. One happened on wednesday late afternoon. We
were walking back to the car which was about 1 1/2 miles away. We
tracted for quite a while on this street. While walking back we say
Polar (our white dog we named) and petted him for a bit. Then we saw
Pipsqueek (a small dog that was annoying we named) and then we say a
Rot Whiler on top of this hill. And then...we say that this pit bull
dog came and was down at the bottom of the driveway of this car. It
was so close to us. I would say about 16 feet away. That was pretty
close. The started barking at us and I was cautiously getting alittle
closer to him so that we could pass. All of a sudden Polar left us and
I thought he was going to attack the pitbull but no. Polar just left
and so we were just with the pit bull and rot whiler above us. I took
another step forward and I had my pepper spray with me and all of a
sudden the pit bull started to run toward us. I was getting so scared.
I started to back up ready to aim the pepper spray at the dog. The dog
stopped though. I was standing there praying that we would be able to
be free from this dog. All of a sudden, we hear this random whistle
out of nowhere. The pitbull runs up the hill and leaves us alone. We
then hurry along and we beg the dogs to stay up on the hill because
they could have easily came down that hill. That was pretty scary
stuff right there. :) I survived!
Then yesterday, on the way to Campton, this lady was turning a
corner and she starts coming into my lane. I slow down a bit and go
off to the side as much as I could and she is still halfway into my
lane. it came to about 10 feet before she hit us and she swerved over.
I was scared about my life at that time. I survived!
We had a cool experience with Vikki. We were still on our way to
the car after the scary dogs and she comes out of her sons house. We
debate if we talk to them or not because we already did that house.
She ended up talking to us first. I guess we should not have been
scared. But she ended up giving us a ride to our car and that was a
mile out of her way. She was so sweet. We did a short lesson with her
and then gave her our number. I hope she calls. I really liked her
alot.
I have to get going now. This week has just been nothing but
tender mercies from the Lord. I love doing his work and I love having
a very hardworking companion. I love reading from the scriptures each
day and I love learing about the gospel. It is just the best thing
ever. I love it. :) I hope you all are doing just grand. :) I love
you. Amanda
p.s. mom, you are not that old. Just so you know. :) I love you. :)

Well, this week sure has been a week. I can't remember all that has
happened but I will try to write the exciting things....and maybe the
not so exciting things.
Sister goodman has been doing a bit better. On tuesday, we went to the
doctor and spent 3 hours there! It was a crazy long visit. I didn't
much like it. I did get a lot of reading done in the Bible though so
that was good.
On Thursday night I got to attend a visitation for a member's husband
who passed away. My second funeral on my mission. The member's name is
Valerie Barnett. She was such a rock. She was comforting those around
her. She knows the plan and that helped her alot. The guy who died is
Mike. He was only 55 years old. That is so young. I guess he had a
kidney transplant a little while ago and then all of a sudden he had
something go wrong. Later, he went into a coma. The doctors were
trying to help him. I guess they drug their feet because Valerie said
that Mike did not have to die. That was pretty sad. She has no idea
why he passed away. He just did I guess. But on friday was the funeral
service. There were three churches and it was cool because all three
churches had something to do with the funeral. Brother Roberts gave a
wonderful talk. I felt the spirit strong when he talked and some
people were nudging each other while he talked. What they said, I
don't know. He did make a difference though.
Friday afternoon we went to exchanges with some other sisters. Sister
Tanner came here to beattyville and I went with sister Klefsky to
corbin. It was fun. Sis. K is a different person. She was cool though.
I learned how to love people more. It was different with her because
she has had a hard life. She is also very slow when it comes to
getting things done. We had a good time though going to people's
houses. WE went to Sherry's house. She is an investigator. She is so
funny. She has fibromyalgia(i forgot how to spell that) and i got to
do her some service and rub her hands for her. She was very
appreciative of that. She taught us what the difference between Grace
and Mercy were. I got a little confused but I think I got it for the
most part. Then the next day we tracted a bit and tried to find some
houses. They had a GPS, which is so nice to have, and we went to one
house. When we got there though, there was no house at all. It just
got up and left. haha.
Saturday was a really good day but nervous day. So, we were not able
to see steve this past week. On monday night he called and said he had
to cancel for tuesday morning and that made us sad and he said he had
no more minutes on his phone. So we were in the dark as to what to do.
We didn't know where he lived and we couldn't call him. So we went a
couple days to call him. Then we called him thursday friday and
satureday. We just didn't know what to do. We were scared that he
would not be interested anymore. But it all good now. He called
saturday and said he had minutes on his phone and that he would like
to meet with us on sunday night. So sunday night we are there at 6:30
the time scheduled, and we wait and wait and wait. I am getting pretty
nervous. I was thinking that maybe he was just running a bit behind.
But then a couple a degrees in temperature cooler, and 15 min later I
was about to call him. Then we get a phone call from him. He explained
his situation. He said that he went out to see a house his friend was
buying and that he had no cell service out there to call us because it
was taking longer than he thought it would. Later he said that he was
just pacing back and forth wanting them to get done because he wanted
to meet with us. We ended up waiting for him to get to DQ and then we
told him to follow us to the Lloyds. We wanted to watch the
restoration movie with him. SO we did and it was such a great lesson.
He felt the spirit so strongly. I only wish it was the right time to
ask him if he would be baptized. But I feel that the next lesson would
be better for that. So on wedenesday we will have extended that
commitment. He is just so so so so so elect. He is great!
Also on saturday something surprising happened. It is transfers
tomorrow so we were getting transfer calls. We were patiently waiting
and when we got home from exchanges, I look at the phone and saw that
we missed a call from sister glende. I though it was for sister
goodman. There was a message on the phone so I listened to it and all
of a sudden, to my surprise I hear presdient glende's voice. I almost
dropped the phone and my heart was racing. The only reason why
president would call on transfer call day is when someone is training.
I know what he wanted. I called him and he talked to me and said that
I would be training in Beattyville. Sister goodman is going to a new
sister area in charlestown KY. At first I got a bit scared because I
am training but now I am exciting. i believe I will be learning alot
about myself and learning how to be a good leader. :) Wish me luck.
So, that is all that really happened this week. It has been a pretty
crazy slow yet fast week. I love you all. I hope you are doing great.
I just want to say Happy Birthday to Allison Lee on the
18th..tomorrow. and HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!! Mom, did you know that I am
turning 22 this year and your birthday is on the 22nd? Cool huh? :) I
love you. Have a great week. Get better Grandpa Ryan.

I am going through my journal and the first thing that I want to talk
about happened on wednesday. It was pretty scary experience but not at
the same time. We have an investigator named Anita. We have been
trying several times to get an appointment with her when she would not
be busy. So wednesday, we go to her house. As we are walking up to her
door, we don' t even knock on the door, a big huge tall guy opens the
door and he is standing defensively. I was thinking, "okay big guy,
you really want to play this game?" haha. I ask him, "is anita home?"
he says, "yes, and we're not listening." I get kind of scared and
instantly I say okay and then I leave. If I could replay that moment I
would have asked him why he wasn't going to listen. I also, for some
reason, wanted to laugh at him. He was being silly. But we left
because I didn't really feel like getting punched or something else
bad like that. haha.
I recieved happy news from Sister moyes on wednesday. It is about
Chris and Katie Bowman. Katie called sister moyes the other day and
wanted them to go over. Katie wanted to ask sister and elder foote
alot of questions. Chris said that he wanted to feel the spirit again
and that he missed it. They also want to go back to church! I was so
very very very excited for this news. That just made my day. :) They
are making the correct choices. I hope that Chris will be baptized
soon. Prayers are being answered and it is great.
We taught steve again this week on friday. And my goodness, ELECT! We
met at Dairy Queen again and we started the lesson about the plan of
salvation. The TV was pretty loud and I didn't think of turning it
down. I actually didn't know we could do that. But he got up and
turned it down. Pretty cool. We did the lesson and the spirit was felt
so much. He loves the plan. He loves that he could be with his family
eternally and he loves that his mom, who is passed away, can get
baptized as well. He read a little from the book of mormon and he is
enjoying it. He would enjoy it more if he could get some glasses. He
is a prepared child of god and it is great.
I almost got in an accident on friday. I was at a red light and I
intended to go straight. We last min, we decided to go visit with ruby
and we had to turn left for that. The light turns green and since the
decision was made last min, I was only thinking about ruby and I start
turning left. Well, I did not process that I had to wait for other on
coming cars. But, I was told by the Holy Ghost to turn straight. Phew.
I almost hit someone and i turned so that i did not hit the person. I
am glad that I did not hit the person.
This coming friday we get to go on exchanges with another set of
sister missionaries. I am excited for this. It will be fun. :) I get
to go to London. :) who knew I would be visiting so many remote
places. haha.
Last night was...interesting. Sister goodman was not feeling good. At
4:00 on sunday she noticed that she had a pain right by her belly
button and thought that it was her appendix. I told her to keep an eye
on it. I read the symptoms of appenicitis and told her that if it
continues for longer than four hours we would call sister glende.
Well, 8:00pm came and it was still there. 9:00pm and we called sister
glende only she didn't answer. we got a hold of her around 9:50
finally. sister goodman told her what was going on. Then she had to
call Dr. Liljenquist, the mission doctor. So she did and he told her
some things. It is kind of strange. I don't think it is apendicitis
because we would probably be in the emergency room right now. She is
not throwing up and does not have a fever. She is still having
discomfort though. I wonder what is going on. But last night we woke
up at 1:00am to see how she was doing and 4:00am again to see how she
was doing. It was a crazy night. Hopefully it is nothing too bad.
I don't think anything else has really happened this week. I just know
that it is going to get really cold this coming week and I am not
excited for it. Wish me luck. :) I love you all. Have a great week.

January 3, 2011
Wow. What a week it has been. But today, was the best ever!!!! Today we had a meeting with a guy named Steve Gaye. (don't laugh at the name). Here is the experience. Yesterday we went to go grocery shop for a lady who needed financial help. We got permission from the Branch President so I figured it would be alright. We went and holy smokes. we were walking along the meat section and I said hi to this man (steve) and left it at that. But somehow we got to talking more to each other. Well, a five minute conversation ended up turning into an appoinment with him the next morning!!! I was so excited. I woke up this morning with a pounding headache right behind my eye and I was just saying, "I am going out still" and I forced myself to get ready even though all I wanted to do was to lay down. We went to Dairy Queen, where we planned to meet, and I was not all that scared of him canceling. We got there and he was there. We sat down in a booth and started talking. I asked how he was and he said good and that he is on day three of no smoking! So, we get to know him more and find out that he wants to find his way and that he wants to get closer to god. I asked him why he talked to us and he said that he felt a good spirit about us. He just felt good. We taught the restortaion lesson and it went great. He was saying that things were making sense to him. He was agreeing and the best part was this. "So, what do I do when I feel the spirit while reading the book of mormon? What happens next?" ........momentary pause.........what did he say? Yeah, he is golden. I extended a soft baptismal commitment and he accepted. I explained that baptism in this church is great and that he was acting in faith when baptized in the baptist church but he would not have to be baptized again after being baptized into theis church. He was so excited. He felt the spirit. I felt the spirit. We finally have a committed investigator and it feels great! We have an appointment with him on friday. Pray for him please. :)
This week I said something pretty funny and it made sister goodman burst out laughing. Which was good because she was a bit discouraged. I was looking at a car and noticed it had a flat tire. So I said, "That tire sure has a flat car." I totally did not mean to say that. It was very funny. I don't make sense sometimes but that is just what make me, me.
Are you ready to laugh at me even more? Brace yourselves. So, just to give you a little insight about this experience, remember that when you place an egg in your hand the PROPER way you can squeeze it as hard as you can and it will not break. (You can try it if you want). So, I had to give a little doctine thing in District Meeting and I decided to use an analogy with squeezing the egg. It was to represent how much faith they had in me that I would not break the egg. Then I was going to relate it to how much faith they would have in the savior if he were to squeeze the egg. Well, I tried it the first time and it did not break. Then the elders told me to try in again and I guess I did not put it into my hand the right way or it may have slipped. I don't know what happened. Another elder told me to use both hands and so I squeezed with both hands. I tried it before and it did not break. But this time...haha...hahaha....I squeezed it with both hand and all of a sudden I hear a pop, splatter, gasp, laughter. Then I felt all the gooey insides of the egg! The egg broke on me!!! i could not believe it. I had no idea what to do. That was not really the plan. The egg went so far too. It just shot maybe four feet and landed on an elders jacket and the floor and the chairs. It was everywhere. I was so embarrassed and I just stood there. I didn't know what to do. I just could not believe that just happened. After a little while, another elder came back in with paper towels and I remembered I had papertowels as wel and I started cleaning my hands off. then I started cleaning the floor. All I really wanted to do was curl up behind the podium and laugh/cry. Everyone was laughing which was worse but it truely was funny. I just couldn't laugh at that moment. Oh man. Never again will I use that object lesson and I will never look at an egg the same way. :)
Later that day we had a great experience. we were walking the isles of Walmart to get our groceries. This lady all of a sudden grabs my wrist and asks me, where are you serving? I was startled by that but then I realized that she was a member (walmart is out of our area). We talked to her for a while and then did the rest of our grocery shopping. We did find out that her daughter is serving in Mesa, Arizona which was cool. I believe she is in Pima right now on an indian resevoir. Sister Christiansen is her name. But we go to check out and I am about to pay for my grocieries and all of a sudden she appears again and says, "Can I please pay for your groceries?" I kind of laughed in my head and then I said, "thankyou but you don't have to do that." Then she said, "oh please? I don't get to pay for emily's (her daughter) groceries and I would love to do that right now." So, we ended up letting her pay for the groceries. I was so thankful for her because I didn't really have all that much money on my grocery card and I was going to pay a little bit on my card from home. I really didn't want to do that so for her to pay for the groceries was pretty much amazing. We had a blessing given to us. The best thing about it as well is that she is going to come to beattyville and talk in church. I am excited to see her again.
Also, church. We had 35 people at church!!! 85% of the congregation were recent converts. That was great. I am very excited and I just want winter to be over so more people get to come to church.
There were a couple other things I wanted to say but I can't remember them and i have to get going. I love you all though very much. Stay cool and remember that you are all a child of god who love you.
