There was so much that happened this week. It was a pretty crazy week.
Tuesday there were very cool experiences: Tuesday morning we had a lot of appointments in the morning and they did not hold out. So, we did what God wanted us to do and we went to go tract. We did this area we thought was promising and the third door we came to was amazing. We knocked on the door and this lady answers the door and immediately lets us in. Her name is Ruby. She was amazing. She had been visiting with the missionaries beofre and for some reason they dropped her. But
she still wanted them to come over. We talked of her experience and it was really cool. She believes in prophets and she believes in the book of mormon. She STILL reads the book of mormon. That is pretty neat. We felt to ask her to be baptized and so we did. She accepted and said that she would continue to pray about it. Her date is APril 23rd. I believe it is going to be pushed back but that is the tentative date. She is the sweetest person ever. She has a nerological problem but she is so positive about it.
Another thing that happened tuesday was at 6:00. A member gave us a referal to visit her father and step mother. WE were very very nervous to go and talk to them. We didn't know what they were going to say. It was the best experience again. We got there and asked to share a message. And we talked a lot on the book of mormon. And then we gave them the book of mormon and challenged them to read. A lot more was
said than this but that is the jist. The step mom was very funny during all of this. You could see on her face that she wanted to not like us but she could feel the spirit so strongly. She wanted to deny reading the Book of mormon but the spirit practicallly told her to not deny it and just read for yourself to know. It was really neat. So they are investigators readig hte book of mormon. It will be good.
We have been doing lots of walking this week. Out alloted miles are almost done for. So we are walking to the places that are closer. Like the nursing home, church, the lloyds. my legs are getting a work out that is for sure. :)
We have been painting Irene's fingernails. This week I painted them this bright green color. You should have seen the look on her face. She was disgusted with me. haha. She did not like it at all. A couple days later we took it off and put some white nail polish on and the next day, she scratched them off. So the next day after that, we painted them clear. She was then happy with me. haha. She is so funny. We had a great experience with Irene this week. We were singing to her like we always do and we sang How Great Thou Art. When I sang the second verse she said, "oh yeah I forgot that verse." then we all sang the chorus together. Then we all sang the fourth verse together. Irene could hardly sing. Her voice was not good but the noise she made was
joyous. Then in the chorus of the last verse, she started to cry. The spirit was so very very strong. I started to cry and sister mikami started to cry. It was perhaps one of the best experiences ever. I loved it. Before we sang that song something really funny happened. It is one of those you had to be there moments but it was so funny. She needed some water and she was laying down. I gave her the jug of ice
cold water and told her she needed to sit up. She didn't hear me and she started to get a drink. Before the jug even hit her lips all this water started to pour down on her chest. hahaha. The reaction was priceless. She said, "ohhoho. that is cold." then she put a smile on her face and said, "i didn't know that was plum full." haha. So great.
There are so many pretty trees here. They are starting to blossom and it is gorgeous. I love love love the Magnolia trees. THere are also these trees that start out with white blossoms and they transition to green. It is cool to see the transition.
There was a huge spider in our house the other day. I am not a fan. That is going to be the worst part about this place. The next worst part is all the poisonous snakes. Like copper heads. I am not a fan once again. Who squished the spider? not me. haha.
There was a huge storm on wednesday at 6:00. I looked out the window and I saw alot of wind go through the trees. And then in the distance i saw rain. And a couple seconds later it was raining at our house. And then it started to hail. I could see the top of trees blowing over and touching the ground. The wind was so strong. It was moving our car. I was afraid it was going to blow away. I am very grateful that we were not walking in that. It was crazy storm. After the storm went away we went to church so that I could teach a girl piano. I am not a very good piano teacher I don't think. I just don't really know how to do it. But she is learing fast so that is good.
Thursday we had a training meeting and it was so good. It was long but we were spiritually uplifted. We were taought how to be a good missionary.
We have another baptism in the future. We got it with Vanessa Flinchum. We got to the flinchum house and only tim was there. He was very very drunk at the time. More drunk than he usually is. He was actually pretty annoying. Vanessa showed up a few min later. Coincidence??? no. We got to go inside and we had a really good lesson. We asked her if she has felt the spirit in her life. She said once before but she has never felt it again. We asked her if that is what she would like to feel again. SHe said yes. Then we extended a baptism question to her. It was cool. Her batism date is May 28th. A good day huh tessa? We shall see if it happens. There is going to be a
lot of changes in her life.
We went and saw a nonmember named Betty Johnson. She is the best. I wish she could get baptized. SHe is a cake decorator and she has to do this cute wedding cake. She is so nervous for it. I told her how Tessa is getting married and how she wants the three layer look as well but how the bottom two layers are going to be made out of boxes. She was almost appalled. haha. I thought it was a good idea. But being the
baker that she is she tried to come up with some conclusions. She was saying, "how can a make a cake for your sister. She is too far to send her a cake. hmm...." haha.
We went over to visit gladys. Her birthday was the 25th. She was doing well. She gave us some coke to drink. And no matter how many time I try coke, I just do not do not like it. Gross.
on saturday we went clogging for a couple hours. It was not a very successful night as we hoped it was gonig to be. We were able to talk to someone a little bit about this church but not too much. It was a fun night though. There were so many people
there. I saw this really cute girl with short hair and I have got to say that I miss my short hair.
Church was so very spititual this week. There were only 10 members at church. It was very sad but the spirit was in abundance. Brother Roberts talked and he told a couple personal stories and then bore a very powerful testimony of the gospel. We got me to cry. I believe that is the only time I have ever cried in church. It was very cool.
I have had a couple dreams this week that were crazy. There was so much that happned in them. I will write them down and send them to you through regular mail. They are so so so funny though. you will like them. :)
I love you all very much. Stay positive.
Love amanda.

Nothing really interesting happened this week. This may be a short letter of experiences. One day this week I got offered for the first time in my life tobacco and beer. WE went to an investigators home. It is Tim Flinchums home. Tim is a big time drinker but he never drinks
to get really really drunk. He is just half way drunk so that he does not make a big scene, if that makes any sense at all. Well, his friend was there are he was obviously drunk and he kept offering us beer and tobacco. It felt really good to have a disgusted face and to say NO.
Then Tim piped up to his friend and said, "leave them alone man. They don't drink or chew." yeah for time. Thankyou for Tim for sticking up for us. Samuel is another family member we teach. He asks Tim for some tobacco and he gets a huge wad and puts it in his mouth and while we were talking, he is spitting. It was...nasty. Then Tim's neice comes out and she has tobacco in her mouth and she is spitting. That is very not attractive for a girl to be doing that. Then Tim put some tobacco in his mouth but he has the decency to spit away from us. He got up out of his chair and went a little ways away to spit. Still nasty. So, that lesson was spent while watching people spit.
We had a really cool experience on friday. We were making plan number 1,000. All of our plans fell through that day and we were at a loss of what to do. We decided to look through some former investigators. We found one that was seeming really promising. We looked at the road and
we said, "great. Right where Roy Lee Charles is." Roy Lee rebuked us for 'preaching' a couple weeks ago. But we went anyway. We get to the house and we realized it was the house that we purposfully skipped those couple weeks ago because there were lots of dogs. But I prayed
that the dogs would not attack us. Luckily they did not. We got to the door, knocked, and a boy answered the door. He said he was not very interested but his mom would probably would be when she got home. Right when he said that, his mom pulled up into the driveway. Perfect!
So we went to go talk to her. We knew that she knew about this church and we knew she knew sister gosset and sister mccombs. So, we start talking about the restoration and it was not ringing a bell. then we talked of the Book of Mormon and her face just lit up. she said that
she had and she was trying to figure out the missionaries from before and we said, "well, sister gossett and sister mccombs were here for a while, was it them?" She said yes. :) then we got on the topic of the three degrees of glory and this is the cool experience. She said that she did not believe in the three degrees of glory but then the spirit talked to her and she then started to believe in it and said it was amazing that people who have not heard about the gospel will be able to hear about it in the spirit world. Then she said it was cool to have three degrees because then it would be able to differentiate the different life styles. Something like that. :) So, she totally did not believe in it and then believed in it. It was amazing. She set up her own appointment and even said she would start reading the book of
mormon. I am so very very excited to meet with her on wednesday. :) Her name is Becky Wylie.
So yeah. That is practically it. it has been the longest week ever for some reason. I think it is because none of the plans we had stayed in force. People keep canceling on us. oh well. it will be all good. This week I get to go to lexington for a leadership training. Then I
may be going to Corbin to help the Sisters out there. They have 4 baptisms lined up this weekend and sister gossett has gall stones and cannot move very well so they have been somewhat out of commision. So, we may be helping them on friday. And on saturday we are going to be doing a community thing and go clogging. We have plans to get alot of
referals. Clogging is so much fun. I kind of wish that I stuck with that when I was younger. Sorry mom. :)
I love you all very very much. I hope you all have a very good week ahead. You are the best. Love Amanda

this week. I don't remember what happened. I shall go to my journal....
monday: we had a lesson with Steve that day. He is still the best person ever. He is just great. He came to church yesterday and he very much missed it. He called us later with a question. Perhaps one of the best questions ever. He asked, 'when will I get the priesthood?' He is very excited to be doing something in the branch. He just needs to
stop working on sunday. I am praying hard that his boss will stop scheduling him on sunday.
tuesday: We met again with the Flinchums. This time the wife was there. Vanessa. Tim and vanessa. We have high hopes for that family. We saw them again on saturday. Everytime we go over, it seems that vanessa is not very happy to talk to us but when we start talking, she
relaxes and she is good and listens very intently. On tuesday, we told them they could call us at anytime. So come 9:00pm, they call and had a question of the book of mormon. They wanted us to read a chapter to them. So we told them a 'bed time story'. :) It was so cool. I felt
the spirit working over the phone. on saturday Tim told us that he slept better after he read the book of mormon than he had in a couple months. TESTIMONY!!! :) I am going to really like them. I already do. We also found a couple (two) other investigators. The lord is blessing us tremendously.
Wednesday: it was the longest day on my mission. I don't really know why. I just wanted it to be over. I actually think it was because I really was not feeling very well. But i had a crazy dream tuedsay night. I had a dream that I was told to leave Beattyville in the middle of the transfer and go to another place. I was not happy about it but then I came to the realization that God told me to do it so I did. I will not be surprised if I left this area next transfer. I feel I will and sister mikami feels that I will. Yikes.
Thursday: we had a neat experience at the nursing home. We were talking and singing to Irene and all of a sudden, someone we talked to about a week ago came in a said,"I have lots of questions." he went on and we talked about the restoration and then we got to joseph smith
and he said, "Joseph smith is the closest man to the devil you can get." I just smiled and laughed inside and asked him why he thought that. Of course he could not give me a direct answer. We asked him to read the Book of Mormon for himself to see if it is true. He at first
refused but we persisted and then he accepted. We soft committed him to baptism and he said, "IF I find out that it is true, THEN I will get baptized." Sweet. We got another investigator. His name is millard. I am excited for him. I think he will find the Book of mormon to be true. I think he will try to prove it wrong but then can't. It is going to be awesome.
Sunday: We got a new branch presidency this week. That was a surprise for sure. now we have president ellison. He is going to be great. He lives an hour and a half away. Which is strange. The east is definatly different than the west. He and his wife have been called as
missionaries as well. So we have 6 missionaries in Beattyville. The lord has something in plan for this area. Something great planned.I have a really good surprise for you all. it is the best. Gladys didn't come to church yesterday and so we went over because we thought she was just sick but no. One of the first things she says, and she said it matter of factly, "I have decided to not be baptized but to continue in the religion of my parents." I am sad about this. When she told me I got tears in my eyes but I contained myself. I cannot tell you the difference I felt in her apartment and in her heart. She was very hard hearted. There was
nothing that we could say that would change her mind. She was not budging. So we left after she again came up with some lame excuses to not join and deny all the spiritual experiences that she has felt. I feel more dissapointed in gladys. Satan got to her and she didn't even
realize it this time. I read in my scripture study something that comforted my soul. It is Alma 48: 23-24. It was personal revelation that I had. it says. "they were sorry to be the means of sending so many of their brethren out of this world into an eternal world,
uprepared to meet their God. Nevertheless, they could not suffer to lay down their lives , that their wives and their chilfdren shuold be massacred by the barbarous cruelty of those who were once their brethren," I learned alot of that scripture. I was very much not happy last
night and very sad. But today I am great because of this scripture. We have family all around us who need to hear the gospel. I am trying to find them. We found Gladys. We were helping her prepare to meet god. But then when she got so close, satan got to her and now she is not
going to be prepared to meet god. That is what makes me most sad. But then I know that I should not be 'massacred by the barbarous cruelty of those who were once their brethren.' I should not let gladys keep me sad. I know that I can't be sad forever. I know that I must be
happy because I still need to prepare myself to meet god and to help other come to him. I learned alot. :)
I love you all very much. I hope your week goes fantastically. :) I love you.

holy cow. lots to say. here we go.
So, we start the week off by being bashed. We went to St. Helens and we were told that satan lives there. But we went to see and i believe he does live there. We went to a house and it looked like a really nice house. The guy lets us in and we sit down. When we sit down, the
wife goes away and we are left with Roy Lee. He immidiately got his bible. Oh boy, i thought, here we go. So, we are testifying why we are there and he is ignoring us basically and he gives us a scripture to read. He has me read it because I was closest to him. And do you know
what scripture it was? 1 Corinthians 14:34. "let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak..." oh man, I was laughing inside. I didn't want to finish this convesrsation. But it went on. He basically told us that we were wrong
and that we should not even be out preaching and that we needed to repent. Yeah. It was great. My spirit was a little bit hurt after that. I didn't show him that I was hurt. I ended the conversation by standing up and saying, "well, sir. it has been a pleasure to meet
you. We have to go now." then we left. I was not well pleased with him. What a lost soul. but now I am good. :)
Gladys told us that she only had one more cup of coffee to get rid of. She went from 6 cups a day to one cup a day. She is great.
We had a funny nursing home experience. There was a lady, who is getting cared for, in the lunch room and she was so so so funny. She was a true southern woman. When she looked at us she said, "my, you girls are so beautiful!" Then she goes off about us and then another
lady says, "well, what about me?" Then she says, "well, you are just the most beautifullest person ever! Come over and give me some loves" so they meet each other and hug each other and give each other a kiss on the cheeks. haha. Then she looks over to us and tells us, "you are
just beautiful. And don't you ever let anyone tell you different." if you want to feel good about yourself, all you have to do is go to her. :)
Yes mom, I did know that I was halfway through my mission. :) Time is just a flyin'. I done got 9 months and have 9 months to go. Where is time going?
We met a guy named Samuel Rogers. He was so cool. He is about 20 years old. We gave him a book of mormon and he looks over at his cousin and says, "I actually might read this." I have high hopes for him.
We continued to go down the road after samuel and this totally cool thing happened! A lady came out of her house and then a HUGE DOG came out of her house. She pointed at us and the dog started barking at us and was going to attack if we went any furthur. It was great.
The lady went back in. All she had to do was tell us she was not interested. haha.
We visited with Wanda Prescott and surprise! she does not want to get baptized. So, she will not be baptized...yet. she said she did not want to disappoint her daughter and she chose to join the baptists. Which we are supportive of her choice. She has her agency. We had a
really good lesson with her a couple days after she told us that. I still have hope for her that she will make the right choice.
After wanda told us she didn't want to get baptized, we called Gladys to see how she was doing. She tells us right away, that she does not want to get baptized either. Doth my ears decieve me? She said she just couldn't see anthing wrong with coffee. So, we hung up
with her and met with her the next day. We went over and man, she is close to the spirit thankfully. We went over the word of wisdom and told her that the reason coffee was wrong is that it is addictive and if she could not get rid of it, she is addicted to it. She then
realated it to alcohol. She gave up alcohol many years ago and she remembered how she was addicted to it and that is how she felt with coffee. She said she would 'try' again. later on in the lesson, after we made up a plan of how she could quit without going cold turkey, the
spirit spoke to her. This is what she said, "Coffee is what is making my eyes so bad. If I quit coffee my eyes will be better." She told us that ever since she drank the coffee again, her eyes have been the worst they have ever been. Gladys is going blind and she is scared of
that but she says if she can prolong it as much as possilbe, she would. So she committed to not drink coffee anymore. She thought it would be "plum stupid" if she kept drinking coffee. As of today she has been 4 days without coffee. She came to church yesterday so now
she will be able to get baptized next weekend. She is so cool. I love her and how she is so close to the spirit. Later this week we watch a movie. The Joseph Smith: prophet of the restoration movie. She absoultely loved it and she could not believe that the early saints
went through what they did. She understood what we wanted her to understand. She said, "some people now complain about circumstances that are not even that hard and they can improve your life. Like me and coffee. I complain that coffee is hard to quit and it is not
compared to some other things in life. It is just plum stupid to do not endure with faith and to fight through those tough times." :) I love her. She is almost done with the book of mormon already. She just reads and reads and reads into the night. She says, "I can hardly put
it down." :)
So, one night we were driving home and steve was on the phone. I was driving and sis mikami was talking. Well, wouldn't you know, two bunnies were trying to play the daring game of getting across the road before the car hits us. and guess what? I hit them. both of them. I
tried to get out of their way. Sister Mikami started to panick for a second and then explained to steve what had happened. While she was talking, I was struggling. I felt so bad and I wanted to cry. I was crying. I had tears galore in my eyes and one spilled out of my eye. I
could not handle that one. so, last week it was a squirell and this week it was two bunnies. What it going to be this next week? maybe a possum. There are lots of those. :)
SO yeah. I hope you are not getting bored with missionary stories. To me, they are not boring. I believe I keep you all on your toes. What is going to ahppen this week? I don't know. Only God knows. :)
I love you all very very much. I hope you have a great week. Pray for me that I will feel better. :) I feel very achy and that is not a good thing. I love you. I pray for each and everyone of you...because you are all the best! Talk to you next week.

what scripture it was?

February 28, 2011
Well, this week was not near as eventful as last week. I don't even
remember what happened this week. I know that we changed houses. I
moved from a trailer to a house that was cheaper in price and much
much bigger. It is really nice. I am sleeping alot better in this
house than I was in the trailer. I didn't realize how bad a was
sleeping until I got to the house. I guess I feel safer. We have no
microwave in the house and I did not realize how much I love
microwaves. They are just the best. I use the stove alot and it is a
gas stove. I burn alot of stuff now. I just have to get used to gas.
It has its pros though. Like today, we are having a big storm right
now. The electrictiy at our house went out. but because of the gas
stove, I will still be able to cook. I hope the electricity comes on
soon. :)
The weather here has been weird. One day it is cold the next day it is
a beautiful 60 degrees outside. it just needs to make up its mind. I
don't know how the dress. I know, like bubba said, that when I blink
it is going to be hot hot hot. I can't wait for it though. I love the
hot weather more than the cold that is for sure. I think the best part
about coming home in decemeber is that kentucky will be alot more
colder and when I get to arizona it is going to feel really warm for
me. That will be fun.
Um, we had a real cool experience last night. We were debating on
going to a members house and I came up with the decision of 'no'
because I was being selfish and I had a headache and I really did not
want deal with her barking dog. But, both sister mikami and I kept
feeling like we should go over. so we did and I am grateful we did.
the first thing she said was that she was mad and then she got right
into it. She did not waste anytime. She was mad about something that I
will not say why but it made her stay home from church and she said
she would never come back to church. It had to do with a member. I
don't remember all that was said but I know that I said, "it hurts me
to know that you would not come to church because of this person. When
really, church is not about coming to socialize. It is about taking of
the sacrament and taking into full use of the atonement of jesus
christ. When we do not come to church, we are wasting what Jesus
Christ did in the garden of gethsemane." I said something along the
lines of that. I learned what it really means about going to church.
It was a testimony builder for me and I am glad that I learned.
Learning is so much fun. :)
I don't really have much to say. I read Alma 27 this week and it is
one of my favorites now. The people of Zarahemla have outstanding
compassion and charity toward the people of ammon. People that they
have no idea about. They gave up a part of their land and protecting
the people of ammon. YOu all should read it. It is quite amazing. We
all should outreach our hands to those in need. Whether it just be a
phonecall to someone who may be hurting inside or a visit to help
someone in need. Service can heal alot of people. Both ways. The one
giving and the one recieving.
I love you all. have a great day...and week. Love amanda
