Nothing really interesting happened this week. This may be a short letter of experiences. One day this week I got offered for the first time in my life tobacco and beer. WE went to an investigators home. It is Tim Flinchums home. Tim is a big time drinker but he never drinks
to get really really drunk. He is just half way drunk so that he does not make a big scene, if that makes any sense at all. Well, his friend was there are he was obviously drunk and he kept offering us beer and tobacco. It felt really good to have a disgusted face and to say NO.
Then Tim piped up to his friend and said, "leave them alone man. They don't drink or chew." yeah for time. Thankyou for Tim for sticking up for us. Samuel is another family member we teach. He asks Tim for some tobacco and he gets a huge wad and puts it in his mouth and while we were talking, he is spitting. It was...nasty. Then Tim's neice comes out and she has tobacco in her mouth and she is spitting. That is very not attractive for a girl to be doing that. Then Tim put some tobacco in his mouth but he has the decency to spit away from us. He got up out of his chair and went a little ways away to spit. Still nasty. So, that lesson was spent while watching people spit.
We had a really cool experience on friday. We were making plan number 1,000. All of our plans fell through that day and we were at a loss of what to do. We decided to look through some former investigators. We found one that was seeming really promising. We looked at the road and
we said, "great. Right where Roy Lee Charles is." Roy Lee rebuked us for 'preaching' a couple weeks ago. But we went anyway. We get to the house and we realized it was the house that we purposfully skipped those couple weeks ago because there were lots of dogs. But I prayed
that the dogs would not attack us. Luckily they did not. We got to the door, knocked, and a boy answered the door. He said he was not very interested but his mom would probably would be when she got home. Right when he said that, his mom pulled up into the driveway. Perfect!
So we went to go talk to her. We knew that she knew about this church and we knew she knew sister gosset and sister mccombs. So, we start talking about the restoration and it was not ringing a bell. then we talked of the Book of Mormon and her face just lit up. she said that
she had and she was trying to figure out the missionaries from before and we said, "well, sister gossett and sister mccombs were here for a while, was it them?" She said yes. :) then we got on the topic of the three degrees of glory and this is the cool experience. She said that she did not believe in the three degrees of glory but then the spirit talked to her and she then started to believe in it and said it was amazing that people who have not heard about the gospel will be able to hear about it in the spirit world. Then she said it was cool to have three degrees because then it would be able to differentiate the different life styles. Something like that. :) So, she totally did not believe in it and then believed in it. It was amazing. She set up her own appointment and even said she would start reading the book of
mormon. I am so very very excited to meet with her on wednesday. :) Her name is Becky Wylie.
So yeah. That is practically it. it has been the longest week ever for some reason. I think it is because none of the plans we had stayed in force. People keep canceling on us. oh well. it will be all good. This week I get to go to lexington for a leadership training. Then I
may be going to Corbin to help the Sisters out there. They have 4 baptisms lined up this weekend and sister gossett has gall stones and cannot move very well so they have been somewhat out of commision. So, we may be helping them on friday. And on saturday we are going to be doing a community thing and go clogging. We have plans to get alot of
referals. Clogging is so much fun. I kind of wish that I stuck with that when I was younger. Sorry mom. :)
I love you all very very much. I hope you all have a very good week ahead. You are the best. Love Amanda
