June 6, 2011

So, I have been out for one complete year already. It feels as if time has gone by so fast yet so slow. I think I am ready to come home soon but I still have six more months of learning to do. What do I need to learn? We shall find out.

This week was pretty good. We have been having some success. We had a lesson with Connie and Mitchell Brookins. Connie is the one that is the next Relief Society President. She is really searching to see if this is the true church of Jesus Christ. She has asked so many questions. I am gald that she is asking all these questions because that will only strengthen her testimony. She had a concern about the priesthood and thought that ladies should have more say in the church. Really, the ladies have a lot of say but we don't have the priesthood (which I am fine with not having). :)

One day we tracted and we knocked on 40 doors and only 5 answered and they didn't want anything to do with us. It was great. We ran into this lady who was a friend of a member and she was quick to say, "Yeah I went to your church once with my friend and I don't believe it holds water." I was confused with what she meant but I finally got it and she meant that the church has holes and is not the restored complete gospel. Well, she will understand one day right? I figured out during that day that I am glad that we pray the way we do. That may seem silly but some guy prayed for us and the spirit was not there at all. Some people were saying Amen during the prayer and it was really awkward. We made it through.

Willard Cox is amazing. He will not accept baptism though even when he knows it is true. We are trying to dig into the real reason why he is not accepting and I think I know why. We shall see. He is amazing because I keep thinking about Grandma Ryan. Willard has had a stroke. I really bad one that affected his left hand side. He is paralyzed and he died for four minutes and came back when he had his stroke. it is truely amazing at how much coherence he has. He is very understanding and can hold a conversation real well, he can retain information, he can walk pretty well. He did not let the stroke affect him like the doctors said it would. he is strong. Once he becomes un-stubborn (is that a word?) he will be baptized i believe.

Jackie sturgill we talked to him about the word of wisdom. He is struggling with it. He has been smoking for many many years, smoking 2 packs a day. He is now down to 4 cigarettes a day. he is doing great but at church you could tell that he is struggling. he can do it though. He really wants to be baptized and really wants to change his life.

Judy Jones. What an experience that was. No kidding. We went to her place which is a thirty min drive from london. She lives far out. We wanted to watch the one hour long video with her about Joseph Smith. When we got there I needed to use the restroom but for somereason I didn't ask if I could use hers. She brings up some lemonade and I wonder if I can drink it. We start the movie after 20 of talking. We were not planning on talking that long but she talks alot. haha. The movie goes and half way through I am really in need to use the restroom. My bladder is getting really full. I didn't ask to go then because i didn't want to ruin the spirit. So I wait and I look at my watch and I wonder when the movie was going to end. My bladder started to hurt. It was not going to stretch any longer. haha. So the movie ends finally and my companion is just bawling practically and so I talk. Then Judy responds. Then Judy goes in and out of the room many times because she was called to do something and then she went to go get us something. She gave us a washcloth that she crochetted. It was really nice. Then she gets into this 10 min talk of how her counter tops have been ordered with out any dents and they come with dents. All the while, i was thinking, "we need to go. We need to go." Finally, I was able to talk and say that we needed to go. She says a wonderful prayer and for some reason again, the time was not right to ask if I could use her restroom. We were suddenly outside and then I got in the car and then I started down the bumpy, hilly, rocky road. That is great on a full bladder...not. haha. Then I get on the main road and it seems like it is taking forever to get there. 20 min later I see the nearest resturant and I go to it and then with dignity I rush into the Arby's and use the restroom. It was very very good. haha. i was no longer in pain and I could actually think. :) So that was my funny story. Judy came to church which was a great improvement. I think she may get baptized. It has been a slow but good ride.

Some funny sayings. "Rock paper scissor shoot, jesus is calling." haha.

I love you all. have a great day. Amanda
