August 29, 2011

This week has been a really good week. It all really started off with a pointless Dr. appointment we had to go to. Sister Waite had to have surgery on her gal bladder and it was time for her check up appointment. We drove one hour there and waited for an hour and went in to the room and the doctor came and asked her three questions, looked at the incisions and said she was all good. It took maybe two minutes to do that and then we headed back home. haha. It was funny and ridiculous. but Sister Waite is all good and healthy now. :)
Brenda. We went over on tuesday morning when we thought she might be home from her trip. We knocked and she answered and let us in. She told us she had just gotten back thirty min. before we knocked. What timing. :) We had a good lesson and she was all excited about being baptized next weekend. We left her and went on our way. But the rest of the week we have not been able to see her. We were trying to see her everyday to keep her strong. She has not answered the door though. One day we went over maybe 3 times. On the third time, we caught her looking out the window and when we knocked she did not answer. So something is wrong and we have no idea what. The next day that we went she put a note on the door that said she went to her daughters house for a 'few days.' She has not come back yet. She missed church this week and so she will not be able to be baptized this week. Which this may be a sign that she is not ready or commited to joining as well as we thought. I hope she answers her door soon though.
We found a good person to teach this week. Her name is Ruth. She is pretty solid I think. We found her on Thursday. We went to deliver a CD that she wanted and we thought that she was a former investigator. We finally found her trailer and I did not feel good about the trailer park at all. It was scary feeling. But we decided to knock anyway. She was the nicest lady ever. She is 45 and she started talking to us like we were her best friends. We taught about the restoration and her fiancee was there listening as well. He fiance's name is James. He is a pretty cool guy. Well versed in the scripture. He about gave up on religion because there were so many hypocrites. But the spirit was way strong as we taught. We gave her a book of mormon and a restortation pamplet and then we set up another appointment for the next day. We went back the next day and we got there and usually sister waite and I pray before we go in to the appoinment. I was praying and when I opened my eyes Ruth was walking towards us. It was awkward that she saw us praying. She told us that she had to cancel because of a surprised funeral. Good excuse I think. But we set up another appointment. Ruth told us that she has started reading the BofM and read the restoration pamphlet already! That is what makes her an elect person. She is very cool. I can't wait to see her get baptized.
This week we were able to reach alot of ice burghs. Does that seem weird? haha. Usually people do not share with us the reason they do not go to church. They give a surface level answer but really the reason they don't go to church is usually a deeper concern. We went in to see a less active and she really laid it out for us of why she does not go. She said that her kids do not go to church and why would she go to church and make it to the temple if her kids can't go with her? It is a very big concern with her. We didn't really know what to say but we said something by the spirit and I think it touched her. She was crying by the end and I kind of felt bad for that but I think it needed to be done. There is going to have to be a lot of work with her to get her to come to church because she won't do it just for her.
We have been praying specifically this week to really find out everyone's concerns and it has prooved to work. I believe that we all need to be more specific in our prayers. Instead of just saying, "help the spirit to be in this meeting," say, "please help us to all pay attention and find an aspect that we need to focus on during the talks that are given." If we pay attention the spirit will be there.
I need to get going. I love you all very much. Love Amanda
